It's like GC all over again!
I have this metrosexual boss who is a self-proclaimed anal-retentive. And sometimes I swear he's the REAL twin of TC Chang. They have the same mannerism, speech patterns and approach to event management. Uncanny. Today he had a mini-panic just like TC used to have. Its so endearing. Not to take anything away from Boss No.1, but I really, really like Boss No.2. The moment I was given "the magic file", I knew he was my kinda guy. The file is meticulous! And totally like what I did for GC. And when he said he was anal, the deal was sealed. I *heart* boss. I also have a BIG boss, the Dy Dir, who unfortunately is like Victor Savage. Sigh. There's always one of them in every organisation. AND... I have another supervisor, who has many admirable qualities that I'd love to emulate. I'd talk about her another day. One thing though, she has inspired me to get pearl earrings. She wears a different one everyday. And ever since I met her, I keep noticing so many other people wearing pearls. I want to be the girl with the pearl earring too! Yes, I can already hear Keemin saying: "Just when I thought you couldn't get anymore matronly...". If no one discourages me from this, I'll go get my ears re-pierced next month. Whee! White pearls, pink pearls, grey pearls.... MIKIMOTO PEARLS!!! 0 comments

it sucks to be me... tra la la
i think award shows are boring. well, except for the MTV VMAs and the Movie Awards. though even those are becoming rather repetitive. then, i saw the 2004 Tony Awards on cable. And... WOW! OMG! Now that's what an award show should be. Perhaps this is the art form best suited for awards. For instance, at the Oscars, the only performances (which break up the tedium of giving out awards) are the "Best Song" nominees. Most of the time, these songs are heavily context-dependant and are better heard while viewing the movie. Annie Lennox' "Into the West" was really moving, while watching LOTR. But onstage, the song was just weak. As for the MTV VMAs, if you don't like the genre, you won't enjoy the performances either. But its different with musicals. They are MEANT to be performed onstage. And each production number has a beginning, climax and end. Its like a really short movie. And who can resist musicals? Its so easy to like. And hum. And those tunes can get REALLY stuck in your head. Another thing that makes the Tonys enjoyable are the acceptance speeches. These people know how to work a stage! No speech is too long or too tiresome for the audience. And these veteran actors have great stage presence. So even when they aren't saying anything, they speak volumes. This year "Avenue Q" won the "Best New Musical" category, and deservedly so. Its like "Rent" with Muppets. So. Darn. Funny. One of the songs is "It Sucks to be Me", which is super hilarious. If I can get a hold of the soundtrack, I'd share it with everyone. It's a great song! And on the CD are other songs like "What would you do with a BA in English?", "I'm not wearing underwear today", "The Internet is for Porn".... So. F*ing. Hilarious. 0 comments

"When was the last time you blogged?" asked Len.
"I've nothing to say. I'm miserable...I'm bored...", I replied. "So write that!" said Len. Fine. Well, I'm not really bored or miserable. Well, I am actually, but not to unendurable limits. And to answer some VFAQs: -Nothing's new with me. -Nope, no job yet. -Nope, haven't been actively looking. -No new hobbies. -No love life. -Haven't moved in to new house yet. -Most of my free time is spent babysitting, doing chores, reading, watching TV or stoning. I'm rapidly turning into a female version of Jon Arbuckle (from Garfield, go Google it.). Sigh. 0 comments

An incredible pain in my right arm kept waking me up every 2 hours, so at 5am I gave in and took painkillers and slept soundly afterwards. Painkillers rule!
Many other bits of my person are still groaning and achey after yesterday’s over-exertions. Moving house is not fun. Gosh! It hurts to sit, to stand, to walk… *moan* Now that my house is devoid of furniture, except for a few stools which are holding/propping up boxes, I realize that I NEED comfy furniture. I look around and there is nowhere to sit, and my Mum forbids me from sitting on the dirty floor. So all I can do is squat or lean against walls. And I have no bed either! Just an old, thin mattress that’s due to be thrown away. So no respite for my achey bits at the end of the day. And just to make things more exciting my dust allergies decided to join the party. So, during the day I’m sneezing and at night I get rashes. *cries* 0 comments

Barbie Collector Showcase - the prettiest! we wants it!
Galadriel is so gorgeous! I wonder if Nenya (The Ring of Adamant) is included? Legolas makes me laugh, while Arwen & Aragorn are just blah! Aragorn's costume is not bad though, click for Aragorn's close up, crown, armour. 0 comments

I have been on a Japanese food binge. Very Bad Amy! VERY BAD!
Thurs: the Oois and I were supposed to eat Indian/Malay food at Al-Amin but we decided to try out the Jap restaurant that was nearby. I had the unagi (eel) and tempura set. Sun: the Geog Soc gals couldn't decide where in Plaza Sing to eat, so I suggested either Jap or Thai. Since Shan didn't want Thai, we ate at Ichiban Sushi Ramen Restaurant, where I had the seafood paper steamboat (kaminabe), something which I have only came across once before. I also had sushi with beancurd, seaweed, pickle, cucumber and avacado (forgot the fancy name). Mon: Boss brought me to Mizuho Japanese Restaurant. This is where I first encountered kaminabe, but unfortunately, they don't serve it for lunch. So I had the unagi bento (yes, again). Tues: I had prawn takoyaki for lunch. But I felt that didn't really count as Jap food, so for dinner I had inari maki sushi (or tau pok roll, as the salesgirl called it) and unagi bento (yup, again, again). Tomorrow I am going out with Peiee and I don't think we'll eat Jap food. But maybe she will offer me some of the green tea that she brought from Japan... 0 comments

You are a WECF--Wacky Emotional Constructive Follower. This makes you a candle burning at both ends. You work until you drop, and you play until you can stand to work again. You have so much enthusiasm that you can find it hard to control on your own, and you appreciate the guidance that channels your energy and lets you be your best.
In a relationship, you require lots of attention and support. You often over-contribute and end up feeling depleted and cheated. You may benefit from more time alone than you grant yourself. Your driving force is the emotional support of others--especially affection. You can run on empty for miles if you have positive energy behind you. Without it--as it occasionally must run dry--you are depressive, listless, and difficult to motivate. You need a lot of affection. Get it any way you can, but never at the cost of your self-respect or well-being. take the quiz! 0 comments

And his possesive!hand on her hip. *guh* And the doggies' names are Sidi and Essa, just don't ask me which is which... kittykatya said: "Somehow I'm thinking the shoulder dog is never going to replace the parrot as a proper shoulder accesory. :D" *bwahahahaha* I can SO see them in a couple of years, with a toddler on his shoulders and an infant in her arms. Makes me all warm and fuzzy on the inside. Awwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!! (this post is NOT for Pearly, and hopefully she will never see it. dun think her poor heart can take it...) 0 comments

Amy is survived by fifty or so gerbils. Funeral services will be held the 2nd of next month. bloody hell, i die 4 days before my birthday?!? no presents! *sulks* but i did die in NYC!!!! WooHOO!!!! but the gal who pointed me this way got perforated by orcs in a bookshop. thats a better way to go. *pouts somemore* 0 comments

addiction disorder & compulsive over use
(another random googling day) Dr. Grohol's Psych Central - Internet Addiction and Online Addiction Do some people have problems with spending too much time online? Sure they do. Some people also spend too much time reading, watching television, and working, and ignore family, friendships, and social activities. But do we have TV addiction disorder, book addiction, and work addiction being suggested as legitimate mental disorders in the same category as schizophrenia and depression? I think not. It's the tendency of some mental health professionals and researchers to want to label everything they see as potentially harmful with a new diagnostic category. Unfortunately, this causes more harm than it helps people. What most people online who think they are addicted are probably suffering from is the desire to not want to deal with other problems in their lives. Those problems may be a mental disorder (depression, anxiety, etc.), a serious health problem or disability, or a relationship problem. It is no different than turning on the TV so you won't have to talk to your spouse, or going "out with the boys" for a few drinks so you don't have to spend time at home. Nothing is different except the modality. withdrawal passive agressive familiar, much? 0 comments

Another post for Pearly.
This: nitw1t's Journal totally captured what I was thinking! Oh Pearly, I feel sorry for you, hon. No more clean-cut Orli sweetness. Better get used to grimy!OB. And if you're gonna venture into the dark side, let me also whisper: Jeremy Irons 0 comments

the downside of being the boss' bitch is that noone else likes you. am dreading going to work tomorrow. yeah, i know that sounds silly. wonder if i can spend the next 5.5 weeks hiding under his skirt? 1 comments

Pearly has passed me the photos she took at the Ooi's wedding. We don't actually have any good pictures of the couple, actually we don't have (m)any pictures of them at all. Well, it's not like you go to weddings to see people get married, right? Right? Oh wait...
Anyways, they have did have 3 official photographers and 1 videographer recording their every move. Its time other people got some limelight. Like the semi-cute swordbearers... And these fabulous friends of mine. Note: Keemin's smirking because he just walked into the girls' hotel room. Or maybe cos he's about to kick the door closed and do unspeakable things to Pearly in the bathroom. :P Edit: Now I find out that he's leering at my gd fren. O_O 0 comments Cos I figured Shan or somebody would ask if Troy was worth watching, here is an alternative (to Len's) review by Arysteia. A good enough review i think; measured and comprehensive. While surfing around from that journal I found another review by an advance degree in art history-yet silly fangirl type person, but I felt she ranted on too much. Good (and rare!) insight on the stylistic and design choices on the movie though. I am however more in awe that she apparently lives the life I covet. OMFG. Freaking PHD in Art!?! Dealing with antiquities and avant-garde art on a daily freaking basis??? Having discussions with professors, collectors and whatnot?!? I weep for my pathetic excuse of a career... And in my opinion, if you can waste $8.50 watching crappy Adam Sandler movies, then spending the same amount of money on Troy is so much more worth it. 0 comments

the oois fill me with joy!
my job is giving me grief. and my coping mechanism just wants to play the pants game. (in this pants or the next, we will be together...for pants!...my father made this pants to commemorate a great victory...) and pearly, is SO dead. *evil laughter* +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ (many hours later...) k, now i have time to elaborate. the oois smsed me last night to tell me they were back in town n that they will be flying off to bali shortly. and when they got to bali, they smsed me again! pei ee even said she missed me. aww! i feel so loved. *hugs the oois* job sucks, but boss has smoothed my ruffled feathers, so am placated for now. as for the pants game, will explain in a separate post...(soon!) pearly no longer lusts only for orli. how dare she! she should know better than to challenge me like that. ;) am now on a campaign to show her the error of her ways. watch out darling, lasvicious pictures coming your way. *rubs hands together with glee* 0 comments

Len thought that Troy was rubbish, even though he was expecting the usual Hollywood fare, good rollicking no-brainer summer-movie material. That doesn't bode well.
I think that [points to picture] is a good enough reason to go see it. Bean/Bana/Bloom! *whimper* (takes a moment to recover...) And here is The Troy Parody To End All TRoy Parodies. I laughed til it hurt! The audience reactions slayed me. Am guilty of like 90% of those things... *turns red* One more picture, because I can! 0 comments

Didn't realise it's been so long since I last blogged. Work has been chaotic. Partly because I've been taking leave, so there's a backlog; but also because I've had to supervise my assistant. Management is NOT easy. However I have made an important choice between my hopefully forever friends and my soon to be non-existent job. I have not made any effort to keep up with work, choosing instead to spend my leave totally focused on helping my friends with whatever they require.
Which brings me to the Wedding. Gosh, I never knew one event would make me feel such a gamut of emotions. It's been such a defining event that I do not know how to Blog about it. Right now I am using Tjin's PC while waiting for his family to be ready to leave for Sentosa. Tjin & Pei Ee have gone to the tea ceremony at Pei Ee's place. Before that we had lunch, tea ceremony at Tjin's place and the JieMei thingy in the morning. The past 2.5 days I have been helping them do stuff for the wedding. Although physically tired, I am enjoying myself. I feel really touched by how Tjin's family has been so kind and welcoming to me. I also feel honored that T&P are letting me help them, especially when they ask and go with my suggestions. I know this is a tense and stressful time for many people, but I did not expect to encounter such feelings. Right now I am still trying to figure out my emotions. Its all so strange. Oh. For some unknown reason, I'm crying at their wedding. I am so not the cry-at-weddings-sort! But its just them... they move me to tears. Love them! Congratulations Tjin-Kai and Pei Ee! May you have many years of marital bliss! 0 comments

Me sick. Flu n fever.
Yanshan is back from Korea, where she bought for me kimchi at an amazing bargain! Boss, whom the kimchi was meant for, said that this sorta thing would cost S$30-40! Whoa, I never knew kimchi was so ex in Singapore. And I only paid Shan $10. Much thanks, Shan Larling! Pei Ee has gotten a proper bridal shower, thrown by her longtime galpals from KC. They treated her to exotic food and discussed wedding stuff. Am happy for her! Been shopping (almost obsessively) for the wedding. Pearly makes sure that I don't buy anything too dowdy, while Huayi makes sure that whatever I buy is versatile enough to be used repeatedly after the wedding. But I think I should also have shopped with Shan, as she would stop me from spending too much :P Coincidentally, Pearly and Huayi are wearing pricey Yen dresses. Never thought these 2 would have the same taste in clothes. Also, I hear that Tjin's maid of 13+ years has spent a similar amount of money on her dress too. And Huiqi is planning on finding a more WOW dress than her PlanB black dress. Cool! Now we just have to convince Kee Min to turn up in Hugo Boss or something... Had a mini, impromtu Geog-gang reunion last Saturday, at Tjin's suggestion. Huayi, Huiqi, Fang, Tjin and I went to Thai Express then to Gelare at Plaza Singapura. I hope they had a good time catching up. Later, Tjin, Pei Ee and I went to see Kill Bill 2 at Great World, where I ran into Keemin and Li-sa. Small world! With the exception of Len, in these 5 days, I have met all my close friends. Yay! Am happy. Maybe shall go see Len soon, altho he may be in a non-sociable mood now. Am considering staying in this job til end of May. Feel bad leaving things hanging. Have just done one of those personality test thingies which said that I'm the sort who thrives on extrinsic approval (gee, what else is new?). So should Boss even breathe the words: "You're wonderful, I need you", then he earns himself a fortnight of my servitude. Troy is not for another 1.5 weeks. Sigh. Me want pretty men in miniskirts! And I thought this picture was as hilarious as anything! i lost the credit info for the countdown clock. sorry, josh! will find it n credit u soon! 0 comments

Tjin-Kai & Pei Ee have a wedding website which is under "creative construction". As with several things in connection with the wedding, the site will be fully functional by their 1st wedding anniversary. :P
So what other things have been "KIV-ed"? Well, for one, the much-postponed engagement dinner that I promised to throw for them. Maybe it will be held after they return from the honeymoon.... Or maybe change it to the 1st month anniversary dinner? Hmmmm.... Another thing was the bridal shower. Pearly and I joked that it shall occur once Pei Ee gives birth! Well, we did attempt to throw an impromtu shower. It had nothing associated with the usual bridal parties:- no gifts, games or party favours. We even forgot to do the few wedding-themed activities that were planned. Eeek! However, what it did have was Pei Ee, her bridesmaid and 2 close friends, her favourite (and sinful) foods and her beloved TV shows. I sincerely hope that it counts as "pampering the Bride before the wedding"... 241 comments

I feel like crap. At first I thought I felt betrayed by Boss, but it's really not him. It's just how things are...
Having a dessert party later. Am going to attack the chocolate, like chocolate has never been attacked before. Hopefully drowning myself in the brown stuff will take the edge off... I hate how vulnerable I leave myself. Should have learnt by now to acquire some armor. Foolish, foolish amy... 0 comments

Just had an enlightening lunch with a colleague. He laid down the facts of life and put all sorts of ideas in my head. The best part was when he said, "Frankly speaking, I think you should go." Wah! Encouragement to quit. Boss would so have a fit if he heard. Hahahaha!
Next topic.... It is 17 days to THE WEDDING. Is it finally time to worry about what to wear? Or does PC-ness mean I have to wait another week? Anyone wants to go shopping? Postscript: Boss did indeed have a fit when he heard that someone was encouraging me to quit. LOL! He also said, "You're so patient with all of this only because of your relationship with me, right?" Well, nice to know that he knows... 0 comments

Geek Notes
Has everyone seen Hellboy (2004) yet? Anyone remember the BPRD logo? It appears here on Scud's t-shirt. And who is Scud? Josh 'Scud' Frohmeyer (played by Norman Reedus) is a character from Blade II (2002) where that movie still was taken from. It's interesting to note that Guillermo del Toro directed both comics-to-film adaptations. (Hellboy is a Dark Horse comic, while Blade comes from Marvel comics.) Also, Ron Perlman who acted as Hellboy was also in Blade II (as Dieter Reinhardt). So this wardrobe choice was perhaps a nod/wink to those in the know. How cool. Geeky and totally irrelevant trivia, but cool nonetheless. 0 comments

Part 2 of my resignation occurred yesterday evening at Anchorpoint's Haagen-Dazs.
The people I've told the full story of Part 1 said it sounded like I was breaking up with my boyfriend. Well, for those people, I hope it pleases you to note that Part 2 was more rational and less emotional. For instance, on Wed we said: Me: Why is it so hard for you to let me go? He: Because I like working with you, and I like you... Me: I like you too! Yesterday we said: He: I can get a replacement to do your job, but I can't replace you. Me: Ok... Anyways, we hammered out the details of my notice period, which will end on 15th May. Boss says I'm free to go then, but he would appreciate it if I could stay a little while after that. "Anything after May 15th would be a bonus," said he. Boss was absolutely amazing about it all. On the way back we discussed my career options and he even gave me interview tips! Wow! His behaviour as a parting-with-a-confidential-secretary Boss is exactly similar to my behaviour as a jilted girlfriend. (I sometimes advise my Ex on how to patch things up with his new gf). It's no wonder then that we get along so well. We're wired the same way. I'm absolutely going to miss it here. But I know that it's a necessary evil. We all have to MOVE ON. So, thanks and goodbye! 0 comments

"Fealty with love, valor with honor, disloyalty with vengeance."
-Denethor, LOTR:ROTK (movieverse) I have resigned from my job. I did it last night over after-dinner drinks at HV Coffee Club. Rather unusual place for a resignation and a very emotional, non-professional resignation it was too. But it's done. Finally! Phew! My assistant/replacement signs her contract today (hopefully no more delays). However, she can only start work on 22nd April. I have decided that I can no longer put my life on hold, thus the pushing forward of my resignation date. Now, it's the slow and painful serving out of the notice period. I worry about what he and the rest will do. Love can so easily turn to hate. But I will persevere. Go, me! 0 comments

It is exactly 4 months or 122 days to my birthday.
A long time ago, I made a promise to myself that I will not still be working at my current job when that happens. Plan A was to resign on June 1 and serve 2 months notice as stated in my contract. And I would give myself some R&R time as a birthday treat. Plan B was to hire an assistant, then train and evaluate her for a month. Should she prove capable, I would tender my resignation. Well, it’s been an uphill struggle trying to find a suitable candidate. I’ve decided that by April 12th, I’ll just choose the lesser of two evils and just hope that things will turn out for the best. Which means that I may be able to tender by May 14th and leave by mid-July. Plan C was to quit after my assistant has been here for 1 week, i.e. April 19th. Also, instead of serving a full 2-month notice period, I’ll just do the bare minimum (3 or 4 weeks). I’ll deal with whatever penalty there may be. Since there will be a replacement for me, things won’t be too bad for the company. And all modesty aside, I am not that uniquely talented. I’m sure that the new girl, once she settles down, will be able to handle the workload with the same level of efficiency. My greatest fear/concern is facing my beloved Boss and telling him that I’m leaving. Especially when I consider all his nurturing and investment in my professional (and personal) development. But I’m logical enough to realize that I cannot repay him by giving him the next few years of my life. Sorry to pillage you and run, Boss, but that’s how it’s got to be. But you were my first and you’ll always have a special place in my life. I hope he doesn’t react badly and decide to make my life as miserable as possible. But as it is said, “this too shall pass”. I believe I can withstand a few weeks of abuse. I’ll just have to focus on what’s waiting on the other side: freedom and a chance to start over. 0 comments

Oh! One more thing. The conquering hero returns today.
(Ok, that was too over the top.) How about: The defender of our territorial waters comes home? After a long month at sea, Tjin-Kai (finally) sets foot on Singapore soil! Welcome home, dude! 0 comments The phone kept ringing, but I had a rule about not answering calls after 9pm, so I just ignored it. And then a few minutes later, the doorbell rang. And there she was, my potential replacement. She was wearing a dark brown leather skirt and a mock trenchcoat. She looked so chic and classy especially with her new glasses. We talked for an hour about the company and her responsibilities. I hope I said the right things. I would hate it if she decided not to take up the job because of something I said. I really, really need her here. Without a substitute, I can't leave this job. I've been having a really hard time finding new staff. They are either uncontactable, or just don't turn up for interviews. And of those that actually turn up, very few make the grade. As for the ones who get hired, the don't stay very long. Oh, we are sooooo having HR problems in this company... I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Hope she joins us and stays. Then I can finally move on to better things. 0 comments

(edited after calming down and mulling over things)
omigod! My Boss is freaking unbelievable. I told him that I lost my HP and bought a replacement which was too expensive and not really to my liking. He said, "Since you're on 24-hour stand-by, why don't you claim for it? See if u can exchange it for what you really want, let me know your budget and I'll take care of the price difference." He's buying me a new handphone?!!? Wow, he's really fantastic! But wait, I'm on 24-hour stand-by??? Knew there was a catch somewhere... Why doesn't he just ask for my soul in return for granting me all my worldly desires? Sigh. He is really making it difficult for me to leave him. Why must he tempt me so? And I dunno what's worse: that he's trying to buy me or that I'm really cheap. *must resist the dark side* 0 comments Molting The universe seems to be shouting out to me and I can't ignore its call any longer. Botanic Gardens by night is a beautiful, breath-taking place. Last night was totally conducive for a leisurely stroll as it had rained earlier, so the weather was nice and cool.
The carpark and the visitor centre were brightly lit, but once you get to the pathways, it was barely bright enough to see where you were going. I've never been there before so I spent most of the stroll just marveling at the surroundings. It was as if urban, concrete Singapore had been left behind and I was walking in another country altogether. The fact that I didn't know where I was headed just made the trip all the more exciting. And there was the surprise at the end to look forward to as well! He kept singing the praises of the cafe: "Oh, it's really nice, especially at night after a rainy day." "It's guaranteed not to have a crowd." "The food's great and its not terribly expensive." And he was so totally right. Out of the darkness, the cafe shone brightly. But the illumination was from tea-lights so it was welcoming and not glaring. The alfresco dining area was amazing. "Right up by the trees", said he. His wife and he have their 'special table' out there, so naturally we chose to sit inside the cafe itself. That and for the air-conditioning. Typical Singaporeans, right? (I'm so tempted to write Uniquely Singapore! :p) The rectangular dining room had glass panels on 3 sides. The decor was simple yet classy: dark woods and cream linens. And they were playing American jazz classics in the background. "Its so relaxing here, I could almost fall asleep," said I. The food was artistically arranged, although surprisingly the portions were not as 'aesthetically' tiny. And it was delicious! We wanted to have the sinful dark chocolate torte for dessert, but we decided to be adventurous and tried the chef's special concoction. It was like a deconstructed tiramisu. It had espresso, mascarpone and alcohol but it looked and tasted completely different. I laughed so hard when he remarked, "Eating mint and strawberries reminds me of toothpaste." He's so goofy sometimes. Afterwards, we were both rushing off the meet our beloveds. His was the wife, and mine was AI. Although he kept apologizing that he couldn't drive me home, I was more than happy to be taking a bus! I told him to drop me at any bus-stop and I took the first bus (with TV Mobile) without really noticing where it was headed. Like I told Pearly later; life is an adventure, you can't be in control all the time. It all worked out in the end: the bus ride terminated at Jurong East interchange and I managed to see a good 45 minutes of AI during the journey. Then I took a cab back ("Claim it tomorrow," he said) and watched the rest of it. I can't wait to go back to the cafe with my friends. Quick, must find an excuse! 0 comments

Hey, I just noticed something about the Blogger banner up there. It shows some 'related' searches based on our blogs' contents. These are what I saw for our frens' sites:
Tjin: India Keemin: Myers Briggs Personality Test Sufang: Orion Telescopes Yanshan: Dream Lyrics Mine says (changes each time you refresh): Heath, Orlando, Knight's Tale and.... Ralph Magazine. Wat the hell? I don't recall a single saucy picture of girls anywhere on this blog. And one more thing. Sufang made me laugh til I cried with her words: "Where’s my life, man? Anyone see it running ard? Pls help me catch it & put it in a bag. I’ll collect it when I’m free." Collect when I'm free? ROTFLMAO!!! 0 comments Oh, u just gotta love Pearly! This is her display picture for MSN Messenger. And what a well-posed picture indeed. My art teacher would say "The eye travels down the path of the tie flaps which branch out and point to the gun stock and barrel. The curvature of each, in turn, leads the eyes to the hands, which both culminates in and frames the focal point of the arrangement". Maybe I should use it too when I'm messaging my annoying lawyers. Shut up before I reach for my gun and blow your head off! 0 comments

I went to see "Ned Kelly" on Saturday with Pei Ee, Pearly, Man (Pearly's BF), Keemin and Huan Jie (KM's guy fren). On Sunday I watched "Ned Kelly" with Yanshan.
Yup, that's 2 days in a row. But I have to emphasise that this was YANSHAN's idea. (Although she didn't exactly have to hold a gun to my head either...) She's such a beast! (NK in-joke) YS found out at the last minute that she couldn't go for Saturday's show, so I gave the ticket to Huan Jie. Which turned out to be a good thing, as he actually has read the book ("Our Sunshine") that the movie was based on. But fortunately, she was able to make it for our other movie "Man Who Sued God". Afterwards, while we were exiting the cinema, she overheard several people saying how good "NK" was and she decided that she wanted to see it too. So we watched 2 movies back-to-back. Which brings me to the actual point of this post... I noticed that Emily Browning was in both movies! She was Rebecca Myers in "MWSG" (filmed in 2001) and Grace Kelly in "NK" (filmed in 2003). From IMDB, I learnt that she has also been in other major movies like "Ghost Ship" and "Darkness Falls". And will be in the up-coming, gonna-be-a-block-buster-children's-movie "Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events", playing Violet Baudelaire. Not bad for a 15-year-old! This is her in "MWSG". "NK" picture will come later. "But my biggest highlight was meeting Heath Ledger and Orlando Bloom during the filming of 'Ned Kelly'. They were both really, really nice; but Orlando is my favourite." Taken from Australia's "Dolly" magazine, "100% Reality" Pearly would say EB has good taste. While Shan would say the opposite. LOL! 0 comments

A bunch of my friends and I are going to see "Ned Kelly" as part of the Australian Film Festival.
I wonder if I can persuade them to head down to MITA to view the Ned by Blood Brothers art exhibition beforehand? I also have 1 spare ticket to the movie, in case anyone is interested. But be warned that this is a single seat, separated from the rest of us. Well, technically, you could ask the couple next to you to switch seats (then you'll be by us). Or you could take my seat, and I'll sit by myself. (Although this might bug the person I'm currently planning to sit with...) Just checked the GV website. Only 24 seats in the first 2 rows left. Looks like it may just be sold out by Saturday night. Should be no problem scalping my ticket at the door then. 0 comments

Our good friend Tjin-Kai was featured in yesterday's Recruit section of the Straits Times. Go check it out if you haven't already recycled your newspapers. His grinning mug is plastered over the front page and there is a short write-up on him inside. I just came back from a long lunch with Boss and I kinda sorta hinted that I'm leaving. Well, what I actually said was, "We both know that I won't be here forever." We talked about many things, but we mostly skirted the issue. The only direct reference he made was, "When you... (pause, gives meaningful look), do give me as much warning as possible." My head is reeling... must calm down and analyse everything that went on just now... 0 comments

Tell the fangirls! Spread the news! (As if they don't already know....)
Ned Kelly is being shown not once, not twice but THREE times at the Commonwealth Bank Australian Film Festival 2004. Not only that, its also the OPENING FILM! This award-winning movie, based on a novel on the life of an Australian icon, stars the esteemed Geoffrey Rush. Its probably a really good movie, with many serious themes and loads of artistic merit. All of which means absolutely zilch to the fangirls who have only 2 reasons to see this movie: Heath and Orlando. er... i don't have any pics of heath... so here's 2 pics of orlando instead... yes, i know they are similar photos. didn't have time to look for different ones... 0 comments

So sweet...
Piglet sidled up to Pooh from behind... "Pooh," he whispered. "Yes, Piglet?" "Nothing,' said Piglet. '"I just wanted to be sure of you..." Written by AA Milne, taken from lbfca on 2004-02-10. 0 comments

Day 366
I have edited and re-edited this post so many times. I just can't decide what I want to say. Sometimes I write about all the good things that happen in the office. Sometimes I dwell on the negative aspects. Its reflective of the 'neither-here-nor-there' mood I've been in. Ah well. Maybe I'll just stick to the bare facts: One year ago, today, I started working at VM. ``````````````````````````````````````````````` "Never permit a dichotomy to rule your life, a dichotomy in which you hate what you do so you can have pleasure in your spare time. Look for a situation in which your work will give you as much happiness as your spare time." - Pablo Picasso Taken from Keemin's post of Feb 6th 2004. 0 comments

Cast your mind back many years, when Huiqi was still an active part of our social circle... and we had fun doing the the Spark.com personality test... Does anyone still remember what their results were? I know Fang was a scientist (this was something I could never forget) and Tjin was a shark (I think). I was a mastermind. Good to know that somethings never change. 0 comments

Remember last month's PMS and the tiramisu? Well, this month Boss gave me 2 slices of cake (choc mousse and blackforest) from Secret Recipe. So lovely of him. I have a GREAT Boss!
I'm very excited to say that I've now got a flat screen monitor. A Philips 15" grey and silver thingamajic. Dun bother asking me what the other technical specs are- i have no clue! But I do know that aesthetically, its a thing of beauty. Am so happy. Saw Irreversible last night and it was very disturbing. Totally deserved that R(A) rating. Only mature minds should see it. My sense of denial has been going into overdrive, trying to wipe away all the rough bits of the show. So now I'm only focusing on the 'artistic' bits. So in summary, "Irreversible"= artistic French movie with liberal doses of violence and sex. I'm looking for a desk calendar for my office. If you have a spare one, or spot a good one in the shops, please let me know. I need something remotely corporate, so no weird cartoony ones. An art or landscape themed calendar would be great. But I haven't seen any promising prospects. Any ideas? Happy Holidays everyone! Enjoy the long weekend! 1 comments

"The woman turned and went slowly into the house. As she passed the doors she turned and looked back. Grave and thoughtful was her glance, as she looked upon the king with cool pity in her eyes.
Very fair was her face, and her long hair was like a river of gold. Slender and tall she was in her white robe girt with silver; but strong she seemed and stern as steel, a daughter of kings. Thus He for the first time in the full light of day beheld Her, Lady of _, and thought her fair, fair and cold, like a morning of pale spring that is not yet come to womanhood. And she now was suddenly aware of him: tall heir of kings, wise with many winters, greycloaked, hiding a power that yet she felt. For a moment still as stone she stood, then turning swiftly she was gone." Whoa! Such heat in so few words! Maybe it's just me, but I think this is a really powerful paragraph. You can just see the sparks flying between these two people. Just for fun, chocolates to whoever can guess what this extract is. Except for Len, because I know he knows exactly where it comes from, who wrote it and when it was written. (And possibly even knows what came before and what comes after...) Len is amazing beyond description. EDIT 13th January, 5.10pm. Len has sms-ed me the publication, volume, chapter, title and also named the people being described above (with the correct spelling). And he said he remembered it from his last reading in 2001, didn't even need to check first to be sure. Told ya he was amazing! 0 comments

okay 3 things...
1) What time is it now? 2) Poor larling Shan is Iraq!!! How come?!? Leonard being Ireland is very apt and I like to praise myself and think that I'm UN-ish, but Shan as I-R-A-Q? That's just bizzare... 3) Sufang and I are so similar its freaky. VERY VERY freaky! One small example: we often get the same results in quizzes. This doesnt happen with my other friends and me, ONLY Sufang... (to be continued) 0 comments
