'An exam is like sex, in more ways than one. They both involve steady periods of long hard work, building up to a wild, brief spurt at the end and a warm, somewhat pleasant (though spent) glow afterwards. Also, according to Amy, "if it's good, words are superfluous; if it's bad, the less said the better." And in both cases, it's always best if you know your stuff.'

(Reproduced, with permission, from Len's journal dated April 21st 11:58 pm.)

Here's a challenge for all of you. Think of other ways of how exams are like sex and leave your pearls of wisdom in my guestbook. The best analogy gets warm admiration from everybody else and the knowledge that you've squandered time better spent studying. :P

Talking of dreams, I dreamt of Keemin and Tjin-Kai. The 3 of us were cruising around in Keemin’s BMW. I was in my usual position in the back-seat. However, the other 2 had swopped places. Tjin was driving, while Keemin was reclining in the passenger seat. In fact, Keemin’s seat was tilted so far back that every time I leaned forward, we would bump heads.

This dream was followed by similar car dream, except the driver and vehicle had changed. I think these 2 dreams were a sign that I should stop letting people ‘drive me around’ or ‘take me for a ride’. I should instead get behind the wheel and drive myself in the direction I want. In other words, a dream about empowerment.

In ANR’s opening sequence, Capt. Willard is dreaming of the war: of napalmed jungles and helicopters flying around. As he wakes up from his nightmare the sound of the helicopters is replaced by the swoosh of the ceiling fan above his bed. But this sound is soon drowned out by the noise of an actual helicopter flying past his hotel room window.

After watching ANR, I actually dreamt about it. And when I awoke, I though I heard helicopters too. But when I was less groggy, I realized it was merely the sound of the construction going on beside my house. Damn, it could have been a dramatic event. But then again, nothing dramatic ever happens in this country.

Seeing 'Apocalypse Now Redux' on the big screen (and with digital sound system) was amazing! I was constantly exposed to new nuances that I missed when viewing the movie at a lecture theatre or on a computer screen. Rumors have it that this movie will be screened here from August 22. Don’t miss it!

With the added footage, this movie is now 3 hours and 22 minutes long. But you’ll hardly feel it, cos it’s highly engrossing. The new scenes are fantastic. It answers a lot of ambiguity while provoking new questions. In one word, this movie classic is: pwhooaarrr!

Yanshan and I went for our final dose of the Hepatitis B immunization today. Though it’s hard to imagine, our gung-ho, fearless YS is actually petrified of needles. In an attempt to soothe YS’s nerves, we had someone familiar give her the shots. Luckily, our favorite nurse, Auntie Jin was around. Not only did she administer the original blood test, but she has given us all 3 doses of the immunization.

The immunization is being conducted at the YIH clinic from 9am to 4.30pm from 22-26 April and 29 April-3 May. Remember to bring your IC, matric card and the immunization forms along.

Spent yesterday babysitting an evil demon who's taken over the body of my sweet little niece. God! I can't wait until her Terrible 2's are over. Then there'll finally be peace in my house.

Coincidentally, while I was reading the Life! article on the pros and cons of having children, she was throwing one of her infamous temper tantrumps. If anything, this experience has reinforced my decision to get sterilised. Sorry PAP, I'm not going to submit myself to this kind of torture again. Children are evil! And then they turn into teenagers... shudder!!!

Today I actually woke up at 8a.m. without any alarm clock (mechanical or human) waking me. Its quite a feat, since I've been waking up around noon lately. But today I got up so early cos I was supposed to meet Yanshan at 9.30a.m. to help her with her essay.

Since she was really sleepy, we went for coffee at UCC Dome. We waited and waited, but the outlet never opened. So, cutting our losses, we went to my 'secret' haunt: UniCafe. Located on the 6th floor of E2A, it used to be a small cafeteria selling humble, local fare, like what you'll find in the Arts Canteen's Breakfast stall. But it has since been renovated into an air-conditioned, 'Modern-Zen' furnished cafe selling a wide variety of consumables. I think its pretty great, given the price and the availability of LAN points everywhere. (Though Yanshan might tell you that the Nescafe here has no kick.)

Afterwards, we went to PGP to have lunch with Sufang and Huayi at Sufang's kittchen. We were having fun, until things took a turn for the worse, and the 3 of them turned into pest exterminators. I of course, was too squeamish to help, so I just stood by and watched (from a safe distance, of course). The story is way too gross for me to repeat, so you'll just have to ask these 3.

When Yanshan left for home to study for her test, the rest of us hung out at Huayi's room. I got caught up in girl-talk with Huayi, and only left around dinner time. (Sorry, Huayi, I should have left sooner and let you study. Apologies.)

The rest of the day was pretty eneventful, but who knows, it's still unfolding...

You are Civilian Calvin!
You don't get to travel much outside your neighborhood, but you still manage to get in plenty of trouble. When you're not acting up, you like to wax philosophical.

Which Harry Potter Character Are You?
by Toffie @ CookieWhore.Net

You Are Ichabod Crane From "Sleepy Hollow."

You're a deep thinker - most times logically. You're a bit of a neat freak and a wuss (hey, you do faint a lot!) but you do have the ability to overcome your fears and come out stronger in the end. And you never lose your head over things. (Gufaw gufaw!)

Find out which Moulin Rouge song you are.

If I were a sappy movie ballad, I would be Iris from City of Angels

Hiding from people inside my own world because I "don't think that they'd understand," I believe I have only one true love which I'd "give up forever to touch." Unfortunately after touching this one true love, they forget to watch where they're going and smash into a truck.

What sappy movie ballad are you?

What Flavour Are You? I taste like Bread.I taste like Bread
I am a staple in almost everyone's diet. Friends like me are a complement to any other friends I get on with almost everyone, remaining mostly in the background, but providing substance when it would otherwise be lacking. (If I was not bread, I'll be Tea)

What Flavour Are You? Cor blimey, I taste like Tea.
I am a subtle flavour, quiet and polite, gentle, almost ambient. My presence in crowds will often go unnoticed. Best not to spill me on your clothes though, I can leave a nasty stain. What Flavour Are You?

Do you still recall the books "The Politically Correct Bedtime Stories" and "Once Upon A More Enlightened Time?"

These books re-tell fairytales in a politically correct style, where persons become persuns and women become womyn. And dwarves become vertically-challenged resource extraction industry persunnel.

Well, if you do remember and you liked them, you should get a kick out of "Frankly Scarlett, I DO Give a Damm", co-authored by Beverly West and Nancy Peske. They skilfully manipulate the endings of various tragic romances, from Romeo+Juliet to Casablanca and everything in between.

It shows that happy-ever-afters are possible when women are liberated feminists, and men are SNAGS. Of course it also helps that all the characters seem to be Oprah devotees who take Dr Phil's and Dr John Gray's advice to heart.

Really hilarious stuff, for those who enjoy a good parody.

Yesterday Keemin and I went to see luna-id's production of Naomi Wallace's One Flea Spare. (Here's another write-up on the play.)

Unfortunately, though I'm a former theatre-major, I can't provide a review for this play. I simply have no opinion on the various aspects of its staging. They were simply ho-hum/adequate but nothing in particular caught my eye. Perhaps Keemin will do a better job in his blog.

However, the play itself (themes, scenes, characterisation and dialogue) was amazing! It starts with a wonderfully shocking line: "What are you doing out of your grave?" and then moves on to tackle issues of class, status and society in the face of death.

It was thought-provoking and mind-blowing. This is one of those plays that stays with you even after you've left the theatre. There are several elements that etch themselves onto your brain. And even days afterwards, you might still be mulling over what you've seen and heard.

I would encourage the rest of you to go and see it too, but I know you're all busy. Leonard, if you ever have the time, you should read it.

First of all, THANK YOU to all of you!

For signing my guestbook, for blogging about me, for your e-mails, icq messages and SMSs. For spending time with me, listening to me whinge and comforting me while I cry.

It has been a difficult time, but it would have been worse without all of YOUR love and support.

So, Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Though I am still upset, I'm dealing with it and moving on.

In the blink of an eye, its the final week of lessons for most of you.

Can you even recall the first lecture you went to? Or all the things that have happened since then?

All the best for your final exams. As we all know by now, it doesn't really matter whether we study. It only matters how well our 'smoke-machine' works on the actual day. :P

I would love to know when your papers are, especially the last one, so do tell!

I love these lyrics!

Underneath Your Clothes
There's an endless story
There's the man I chose
There's my territory
